The Lemon Drops

I finally decided on my Fall sport. I chose soccer over swimming (temporarily, anyway) and even dance. I chose soccer once I figured out I can wear a pleated skirt instead of those HUGE shorts that go down past my knees. Not a pretty look.

I love my team, the Lemon Drops, because we get to wear hair bands that look like lemon slices! One thing I found out is that you sure run a lot in soccer. I kept asking momma during water breaks how much longer we had to play.

Here's the video:

Despite feeling hot and tired after our game I had just enough energy to eat at Fosters Freeze. I don’t know if we won or not because I wasn’t really paying much attention, but I am excited to play again. My jersey is number 9, just like Daddy!

Little House

Last week Momma took me to the library. We got two more Ramona the Pest books. She also picked up one that I hadn't heard about called Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I had seen a snippet of the TV show the week before, which is why she thought of it I think. The book has a lot, a lot, a lot of pages. Over 300! But because there are little drawings throughout I'm hanging in there. Momma told me that the book takes place in Kansas, which is near where Grandma KC and Papa live, but long before Kansas City was the big city it is today.

There have been so many exciting chapters so far. There was the chapter where Pa saved the horses pulling the wagon through the overflowing creek. Their dog, Jack, got left behind! I couldn't understand why Pa wouldn't go back and find Jack. It made me feel better when Laura asked Pa about dogs going to heaven. But then Jack returned. The book tried to trick me into thinking Jack was a wild animal sneaking up on their camp, but I knew it was him.

Last night we read about the pack of 50 wolves surrounding the house. Momma had told me this was coming and explained that everything turned out alright in the end. It was an exciting chapter. I was worried about Jack again and was glad the family had strong walls around them to protect them.

Every morning I've asked Momma to read just a little bit more of the story. I get two chapters read in the evening and one chapter read in the morning. I wiggle around a lot and occasionally stop listening to sing little songs under my breath and goof around. That's when Momma replaces the bookmark and shuts the book for later. There are just so many words, words, words.

Self-portrait

My birthday present from my momma was a used digital camera. I'm always asking to use her camera and I have to say, she's a tad stingy with hers. But now I have my own Canon Elph. And it tweets like a bird when you turn it on!

I'm getting the hang of it, but I still find the camera to be a little tricky. I have to keep my fingers off the lens and out of the way of the flash. Dropping it is a big no-no so I need to use the wrist-leash. The autofocus feature still trips me up and I can't seem to figure out how close is too close when taking portraits. Practice makes perfect.

Here are some of the shots I've taken.

Dinner is on me

I planned and cooked last night's dinner. At first, I suggested we have chicken burritos with beans and rice and salad and tiny bits of turkey and... But when it came down to it, I chose the old Summer standard - HOT DOGS!

Daddy and I made our list and walked to the store to get all the ingredients. Hotdogs, buns, and a sack of salad. I had trouble sticking to the list and felt the urge to touch absolutely everything, but eventually we made it home again with our dinner.

I put all the buns on the plates and opened the package of turkey dogs. Manager's special - only 0.89! Daddy helped me grill them up outside until plump and brown. I cut up the tomatoes and orange bell pepper for the salad without any help. We set the table and had a lovely Summer meal outside followed by a walk in the neighborhood with Lola.

Can I be your baby bumblebee?

Friday was the Spring recital and I was so excited to perform. I also got to stand by my best friend, Taryn, which was lots of fun. No stage fright this time and I knew all the words.

Dancin' Singin' Songwritin'

On the drive home tonight I heard on the radio about a songwriter who released a new song. I think I could be songwriter. A singer songwriter. A dancing singer songwriter.
